No Mud, No Lotus
No Mud, No Lotus
The lotus and water lilies are some of my favourite flowers. I have always found water soothing, and gazing at a fish pond with water lilies has always helped clear my mind and feel at peace. But it’s not just because of their beautiful flowers and glossy lily pads. The Lotus has a long and meaningful history. In Buddhism the lotus symbolises a spiritual awakening, to the Egyptians it represented rebirth as well as a bonding of good and bad or old and new. But as someone who is fascinated in plants it’s the fact that the Lotus can ONLY bloom in muddy water. It is natures way of reminding us that you can’t have the good without the bad, that if we are feeling low and stuck in the muddy waters, that we will one day soon rise up out of the surface and bloom in the sun. Lotus flowers bloom for three days, each night disappearing back beneath the surface of the water, and that reminds me that it’s ok to have bad days, that you may feel sucked into the darkness but that it will get better again. The gloom will lift and tomorrow will be a another day.
Each design is silkscreen printed by me in my studio, then signed and numbered. This printing technique makes each print a unique piece of art, no two are exactly alike. This design is printed onto gorgeous handmade paper, made in India using recycled cotton rag and has a beautiful rough deckled edge. This print measures 29.7 x 42cm , but the handmade nature of this paper means size and shape may vary slightly. Each print is wrapped in acid free tissue paper to protect it. No plastic is used in the packaging. I aim to ship in 3-5 days or sooner.
